In the past few weeks, my own fear and mood has been a roller coaster ride with more lows than heights. The day before yesterday I met what I call “the wall”, what I met in difficult times before I came to acceptance. It’s about tears, an outward expression of my fear and a bad mood – which unfortunately is contagious to others – and then I usually make a psychological shift towards acceptance.
In earlier times, when I found acceptance, it’s not just a static state, it’s more positive than that, it’s a stepping stone to better things. It is a change in my psyche and a change in my consciousness. And that’s the thing, without the negative thoughts that lead me to the “wall”, I am free, free to have better creativity, free to have better feelings and emotions, and free to move forward. It brings hope, optimism and positivity. As humans, we are both privileged and cursed to have consciousness. When we have a higher consciousness, we can see the world much more positively, but when this changes, we approach emotional difficulties. Jack Pransky emphasizes this in his book that someone should have told us! A valuable read for those of you who are currently finding comfort in reading, and of course for those of you who are discovering a new love of reading at this time!
The sun is shining today because it is not governed by a consciousness that does not say it. There is no consciousness governing knowing that his planet is in crisis. It doesn’t know how sad, fearful, and challenging every single person today who shares their planet is. Nothing has changed externally for me overnight, but my consciousness, my thoughts and my attitudes have changed. Since mid-March (to keep myself and others healthy) I’ve been writing my diaries about my experiences with Covid-19 – as a person experiencing fear, as a small business owner, and as an average woman in the street (or not like now). So far it has been written in the mindset of someone who struggles incredibly, but I am committed to challenging my consciousness to be the sunshine. There are no guarantees that I will maintain this, but I am striving for a higher level of consciousness in my thinking. “Nobody said sunshine” is my personal line in the sand to move forward in other ways, but for this to happen, I have to change some behaviors. The actions that help this are:
- Reduced exposure to news reports
- Make sure I have a creative outlet
- Start running again – which fell by the wayside when my youngest was born in 2016 and because I’ve been busy running my business and offering training since 2015
- Write it down if I have to
- Maintain telephone contact with relatives and visual contact with those who have the digital tools to do so
- Reach and support others as well as possible
- I remember all the positive memories I can have
- Think about future hopes and dreams
- Spend time with my husband and boy (although my husband is a key worker so we are not together all the time) and maintain good phone contact with my daughter and grandchildren
- Commitment to things that I encourage others to do, such as trying to be resilient to these adversities Time for self-confession: I am not always the best when it comes to following my own advice and self-care. It was my New Year’s resolution and is in the works!
I saw today’s sunshine as a light of hope. It will surely rise every day whether that day the Covid 19 numbers have increased or whether it has decreased. I can only control myself on these numbers by following the advice and instructions of the UK Government, WHO and the NHS.
