John Lennon

John Winston Ono Lennon MBE (born John Winston Lennon, 9 October 1940 – 8 December
1980)

John Lennon was one half of the most successful writing partnership in songwriting history with
Sir Paul McCartney and was one quarter of one of the most successful bands in the world.. The
Beatles.

Born In Liverpool in 1940 during the second world war, he formed his first band called The
Quarrymen and after meeting and inviting Paul McCartney, The Beatles were formed and went
on to enjoy unparalleled success throughout the 1960’s with some of the most iconic songs ever
written.

Always viewed as the rebellious one with the quick wit, he was a self proclaimed pacifist and was a staunch advocate against the then Vietnam War ‘Make love and not war’ was his motto and his later song creations would reflect his stance. He would go on to collaborate with his second wife Yoko with well know international hits such as ‘Imagine’ ‘Give Peace A Chance’ ‘Happy Xmas (War is Over)’.

It was said that it was his controversial interview (video supplied) that led to his untimely death, assassinated in the archway of his Manhattan apartment building by a Beatles fan, Mark David Chapman in 1980.

It was a sad end to a musical genius and the world was robbed of a very bright star.
