Stress is a natural part of life, and some of us experience more stress throughout the day than others. Whether you have a demanding job, health concerns, or family responsibilities, it can be easy to get overwhelmed from time to time. Fortunately, there are a few ways that you can turn stressful energies into motivation to achieve more.
Here are some practical ways to be productive with stress.
# 1 Take a break
When you have a deadline to complete a large project for work, or when you need to place an assignment for school, it may not seem intuitive to stop working for a while. When you are feeling stressed, there can be a calming down your mind and body and an organized plan of action. During your break, you can take part in breathing exercises or during your break you can bring pen and paper to write down the tasks you need to do in order of priority. As you get back to your job, you are likely to feel less anxious and ready to accomplish more.
# 2 Spend time in nature
Taking some time to explore the great outdoors can turn your stress into productivity. You can take part in activities like kayaking, hiking, or climbing so that the hyperactivity you may experience from stress can be used in a healthy way. These activities also help you get a great workout while getting some fresh air. If you want to spend a few days outdoors, you can try camping. There are several campsites in California that you can visit to spend the night under the stars, hike tree-lined trails, and canoe or swim to get the most of your camping adventure.
# 3 Sleep well
One of the best ways to deal with stress and increase your productivity is to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Studies have shown that people who get enough sleep each night are happier and can do more during the day. This can be easier said than done depending on your work and family plan.
You can increase your chances of a good night’s sleep by playing nature sounds in your room to soothe your nervous system. Use a white noise machine to lull yourself to sleep, and use an essential oil diffuser to bring chamomile and lavender oils into your bedroom for soothing mind and body. It can also be helpful to create a bedtime routine for yourself, where you turn off your TV and devices about half an hour before bed.
# 4 Create an exercise routine
If you find that you are feeling more stressed than normal, then you should try to exercise more. Exercise releases endorphins that improve your mood and regulate your energy levels. If you’re not so tired during the day, your focus will improve and you won’t feel as frustrated when you have to take on tasks that require more focus. Stress can also lead to the build-up of cortisol in the body. So as you exercise more, it may be easier to control your weight, which can lead to less stress and anxiety.
# 5 Take the time to meditate
You can turn your stress into productivity by making time for daily meditation. When you meditate, you let stressful thoughts go through your mind without trying to resolve them. You just acknowledge them and let your mind process a new thought. This can help you realize that the things you are stressed out about are manageable as you develop a plan to resolve those issues. Meditation also reminds you that there are certain things that you cannot control and that you should focus on the energies that you can change. It is best to meditate in a quiet room every day so that you are not distracted. After your meditation session, you can write your thoughts in your journal to remind yourself of the progress you have made in managing your stress level.
